DESCRIPTION Top Pop Superb Gem 1901 Half EagleNone Finer at PCGS or CAC1901 Liberty Head Half Eagle. MS-67 (PCGS). CAC.
A gorgeous and pristine jewel with superior quality in every respect. The complexion is flashy and colorful with a blend of rich pinkish and golden-tan shades. The luster is satiny and uniform, remaining fully unbroken under magnified inspection. 615,900 Liberty half eagles were struck in Philadelphia during 1901, representing a significant decline from the 1.4 million produced the previous year. Still the 1901 is relatively common in most grades and approximately 3,500 are estimated in all Mint State grades. However, most of these are found in grades of MS-63 and below due to distracting bagmarks. This issue becomes a significant condition rarity at the Gem level, where only around 70 are thought to survive. The present MS-67 (PCGS) CAC is one the very finest examples from this elusive group, sitting at the top of the Population Reports at both PCGS and CAC. It is surely destined for an advanced Registry Set or cabinet of Liberty Head gold.PCGS# 8402
